All on 4 Payment Plans: What to Ask First

Replacing a full arch of missing or failing teeth is a significant clinical and financial decision. All on 4 payment plans can help some patients spread the cost of treatment over time, but the right arrangement depends on your treatment needs, the total quote and your household budget.

All-on-4 is a full-arch implant treatment in which a fixed bridge is supported by dental implants. It may be considered for people with extensive tooth loss or teeth that cannot be predictably restored. A consultation is the appropriate place to assess whether this treatment is clinically suitable and to discuss the costs involved before making any finance decision.

What is included in an All-on-4 treatment quote?

A clear quote is more useful than a single advertised starting price. The treatment process can involve assessment and planning, imaging, extractions where required, implant surgery, a temporary bridge and a final bridge after healing. However, the exact steps differ between patients.

Your dentist should explain what is included in your individual quote and whether there are circumstances that could change it. For example, the condition of your gums and jawbone, the number of teeth requiring removal, sedation requirements and the material selected for the final bridge can all affect the overall treatment plan.

Ask for the quote in writing and take time to read it. It should distinguish between the clinical treatment fees and any third-party finance arrangement. This makes it easier to compare options accurately and avoids assuming that two similarly described plans cover the same care.

Questions to ask about the treatment costs

At your consultation, it can be helpful to ask whether the quote includes diagnostic imaging, surgical appointments, temporary teeth, the final teeth, reviews and any planned maintenance. You can also ask what happens if additional treatment becomes necessary after your examination.

No clinician can responsibly promise that every aspect of treatment will be identical for every patient. A detailed assessment helps identify foreseeable needs, but dentistry and healing can involve variables that are only apparent during treatment.

How All on 4 payment plans usually work

Payment plans generally fall into two broad categories. Some practices offer staged payments made directly to the practice at defined points in the treatment process. Others work with an external finance provider, where an eligible patient enters into a separate credit agreement.

With a staged payment arrangement, the timing of payments may align with clinical milestones, such as planning, surgery and delivery of the final restoration. This can make the schedule easier to understand, although it does not necessarily reduce the total treatment cost.

Third-party dental finance may allow payments to be made over a longer period. Approval criteria, available terms, fees, interest and repayment amounts are set by the finance provider, not by the treating dentist. If you are considering this option, read the credit contract carefully and make sure the repayments remain manageable if your circumstances change.

Creative Smiles can explain the payment options available for your proposed treatment and provide an itemised quote following an assessment. Finance eligibility and terms should always be confirmed directly with the relevant provider.

Look beyond the weekly or monthly figure

A smaller repayment can feel more manageable, but it may mean paying over a longer term. The figure that matters is the total amount you will repay under the agreement, including any establishment fees, account fees, interest or fees that apply if a repayment is missed.

Before signing, ask for the following information in plain language:

  • the total treatment fee and the deposit required
  • the repayment amount, frequency and final payment date
  • the interest rate, comparison rate where applicable, and all fees
  • whether an interest-free period applies and what happens when it ends
  • the consequences of missed or late repayments
  • whether you can make extra repayments or pay the balance out early

It is also sensible to review your existing financial commitments rather than looking at this treatment in isolation. A payment plan is a credit commitment, so independent financial advice may be appropriate if you are uncertain about affordability.

Why clinical planning should come before finance

It can be tempting to focus first on whether repayments fit a preferred weekly amount. However, the clinical plan should come first. All-on-4 is not a one-size-fits-all solution, and it is not necessarily the most suitable approach for every person missing teeth.

Your dentist will consider your medical history, smoking or vaping status, gum health, bone volume, bite, oral hygiene, expectations and the teeth that may be retained. Some people may be better suited to individual implants, an implant-supported bridge, dentures, periodontal treatment or restorative care for natural teeth.

The long-term care requirements also matter. Implant-supported teeth still need daily cleaning and regular professional reviews. Like other dental restorations, components may require maintenance, repair or replacement over time. Ask whether ongoing reviews and maintenance are included in the initial quote or are charged separately.

Comparing payment plans fairly

When comparing All on 4 payment plans, start with the same clinical scope. A lower price may reflect a different bridge material, fewer included appointments, different sedation arrangements or exclusions that become relevant later. It may also simply reflect a different treatment plan.

Rather than comparing a headline number alone, compare the written inclusions, the expected treatment sequence and the total amount payable under each finance option. If a quote is unclear, ask the practice to explain it before proceeding. You should feel able to ask questions without pressure to decide on the day.

For patients in Melbourne considering full-arch implant treatment, it may also be practical to factor in time away from work, transport home after sedation if applicable, and attendance at review appointments. These are not always part of the dental fee, but they are part of planning for treatment responsibly.

A practical checklist before you commit

Before accepting a treatment plan or finance agreement, make sure you understand the diagnosis, alternatives and expected maintenance needs. Confirm the total treatment fee, what is and is not included, and when each payment is due.

It is worth asking how changes to the treatment plan would be discussed and documented. You should also understand the cancellation, refund and rescheduling terms that apply to both the dental practice and any separate finance provider. Keep copies of your quote, consent information and finance documents in a safe place.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get All-on-4 with no deposit?

This depends on the payment options offered, your treatment quote and, where relevant, the approval criteria of an external finance provider. Some arrangements may require an upfront payment or payment before certain treatment stages. Confirm this in writing before booking treatment.

Are payment plans interest-free?

Some finance products may offer an interest-free period, often subject to specific conditions and time limits. Interest, fees or charges may apply if the balance is not repaid within the required period or if other contractual conditions are not met. Always check the full terms rather than relying on the promotional description.

Does private health insurance cover All-on-4 treatment?

Benefits vary considerably by fund and level of cover. Annual limits, waiting periods, exclusions and the individual item numbers used for treatment can affect any benefit payable. Your health fund can confirm your cover, but insurance benefits may not cover the full treatment cost.

What if I need additional dental work?

Additional care may be recommended if it is necessary for your oral health or the planned treatment. Your dentist should discuss why it is needed, the alternatives and any effect on timing or fees. Do not assume additional procedures are included unless they are listed in your written quote.

A well-considered decision starts with a thorough clinical consultation and a payment arrangement you understand. Take the time to review both before proceeding, and seek clarification whenever a cost, term or treatment step is unclear.

Dr. Reg De Sousa

Dental Surgeon

As the practice principle at creative smiles I am proud to lead the dedicated team of doctors, nurses and administrative staff at Creative Smiles.

I come from a family of dentists and so grew up around dentistry from a young age helping out whenever I could .Hence my passion for dentistry began at an early age and has grown over the last 30 years that I have been in practice.

I qualified as a dentist from the Royal London Hospital Medical College, (University of London) in 1994. On graduation I completed a years post graduate vocational training and then began working on the NHS for the next 12 years.

During this time I also branched out and opened a small private practice on London’s Harley Street which I had for 5 years until my departure to Melbourne.

While on Harley street, I developed my interest in implant dentistry, and studied for a year in 2007, under a clinical mentorship.

In 2010 I moved to Melbourne with my family and began working as a dentist at Creative Smiles, where I have further developed my skills in implantology and cosmetic dentistry and additionally completed the Invisalign and Spark training.

I have also completed the All-On-4 training at the Malo Clinic in Lisbon, Portugal, where the concept was created, enabling me to offer this treatment concept in addition to the more traditional approach to fixed and removable prosthetic oral rehabilitation to our patients at Creative smiles.
